Process is key. Don’t be a hack. A lot of things happen spontaneously, but professionally and personally the most rewarding things are likely to be the ones that took the most time to develop and the most effort to see through. I’ve been thinking a lot recently about Process and how it can take a post-college job search from zero to sixty pretty quickly.
Maybe the best example of Process at its finest is in great design work. Great designs are well thought out, and many pretty good ideas must be pushed to the side in order to find the one that truly works. It takes practice, research, time, and effort to get something that is top notch. Oh, trial and error too. All of it is part of the Process of obtaining the end goal; whatever it may be.
Just for fun I am posting some sketches I made in the process of designing a banner ad, and the one I ended up using.
